Carole Panksztelo

My crafting days began at about the age of 5 when I used to sit with my Nan whilst she taught me to knit & crochet.  That was the start to my crafting addiction I guess!

Like I've read with so many others, I've gone through a whole range of crafts, including dried flower arranging, cross stitch and even had stalls at local craft fairs selling various hand crafted items during the last 30 odd years.  WOW that makes me feel old!

I currently live in Hillingdon, Middlesex with my partner Peter, and enjoy crafting at every opportunity.  I work full time so I'm limited to evenings and weekends for creating.  Not that I want to wish my life away, but roll on retirement or a nice lottery win so that I can do more.

I discovered Clarity last year when I was convalescing after an operation on my toe and started watching Create and Craft, then I saw Barbara on one of the weekend shows and I was hooked.

My days are spent working as a Payroll Supervisor at a company I've been with for 21 years, I suppose you could say that "I do love my job!"  Our holidays are spent either cruising or visiting my cousin in America where I can craft all day every day as my cousin converted the loft over their garage into an apartment for us to stay, so it's one big craft-fest for me, much to Peter's dismay!

I draw inspiration from all the guys at Clarity and love to see all the artwork on facebook, so keep up all the blogs.  I love visiting blogland whenever there's any new techniques and I love to try them!

Many thanks to the Clarity team for all the wonderful creations.... "Keep calm & carry on crafting!"

Sarah Stacy

I wouldn't really consider myself to be creative, but looking back I have dabbled with numerous creative things over the years including sewing and cross stitch.

About 5 months ago I started making cards initially as I thought it might be good to help my three year old son as I enjoyed making cards and gifts when I was a child.  It didn't take me long to realise that I still enjoyed making cards, so my obsession started!

I purchased a few bits and pieces and quickly learnt how much more stuff I needed.  My first Clarity purchase was the Gelli Plate, which I bought at the NEC in November after watching Barbara do some impressive demos.  I received my first Clarity stamps at Christmas along with the Clarity stencil brushes.

At the beginning of the year I thought creating a card each month to enter into the Clarity challenge might be fun and I might even see an improvement in what I'm producing over time.  It's a good excuse to slowly start building up my stash of Clarity stamps!

There were so many amazing entries and as it was only my second month of participating in the challenge I was extremely surprised (and very happy) to see my card picked as one of the Top 5.  I haven't told my husband yet as I don't want him to see the card until I hand it to him on our anniversary next month!

Spotlight on Shelagh Metselaar - Top 5 from Challenge 12

We thought it would be nice to have spotlight posts throughout the month dedicated to our top 5 from the last challenge "LOVE AND ROMANCE"  We hope you enjoy reading about their crafting journey and you never know it could be you in the spotlight next month.

First of all thank you for choosing my Love and Romance entry as one of your top five. It was a considerable departure from my normal approach as I don’t ‘do’ messy hands easily, but the fun of not being able to predict the outcome until all the paint had been removed, was quite exciting - sad or what?

I began entering the challenge in October and only had the courage to do that after Barbara showed a card of mine on Create and Craft. This materialised when I attended Barbara’s demo day here in Aberdeen at The Papeterie in July where she issued a challenge to those of us present to design a card using the new Scottish cities stamps; the gauntlet was thrown down and not being able to resist a challenge, I duly sent in my card.

I met Barbara again at the SECC in October, where I was offered sound advice regarding stamping. This was when and where I learnt of the Clarity Challenge. I decided to have a go and have been submitting stamped items ever since. Although I have subscribed to the New Design Club for some time, I had not used them to their full potential until now.

The latest additions to my Clarity Collection are the ‘Garden Birds,’ ‘Cherry Blossom’ and ‘Word Chains’, all of which arrived yesterday. They were a ‘must have’ as at this moment whilst writing I am overlooking the garden, the birds are busy at the feeders and one of my cherry trees has burst into blossom only this morning. (I can see a further requirement for the ‘Journaling Set and Banner Stencils’ too as they are very much my kind of stamping, but don’t tell my long suffering banker i.e. Mike, my husband!)

Looking forward to the next challenge! Meantime happy stamping!

Spotlight on Lesley Davies - Top 5 from Challenge 12

Lesley Davies

I've loved handicrafts since being a child and have always had one project or another on the go.  I started with dress making and embroidery, then branched into tatting and patchwork and later tried my hand at lead lighting and cake decorating.  I have to confess that at age 15 I think I bit off more that I could chew - a tablecloth that I would embroider daffodils onto.  Not just a couple of blooms mind you, but a veritable host!  It's still in my cupboard, three corners done, one still to go!  I'm sure they're multiplying!

I first became interested in stamping when I saw a demonstration at a craft show in Perth, Western Australia, where I currently live.  It was the embossing powder that did it - to this day, every time I use it I think it's magic!  Nowadays stamping and card making are what I enjoy most, although I do wield a needle from time to time.

When visiting my sister in England a few years ago, she introduced me to Clarity via Create and Craft.  I'd never seen anything like Barbara's demonstrations and was amazed at what she could achieve.  I was so inspired that last year, when living back in England, I hauled my sister along to as many craft shows as I could manage.  We went to Ally Pally, Harrogate and the NEC and were lucky enough to be part of one of Barbara's workshops at Harrogate.  Not only did we have a ball, but we learned so much from the experience too.  My gelli plate is now my friend and playmate, instead of being the wobbling wallflower in the cupboard.

One of the best things about my handicrafting is that it has introduced me to some very special friends and has afforded me the privilege of meeting some wonderfully creative people who have been simply bursting to share their ideas, not least the Clarity team.

I've been crafting in one form or another since I can remember.  As a child I loved colouring and 'making things' and later cake decorating.

About 5 years ago I was on holiday with my sister and her family.  My 2 nieces wanted to do a morning workshop which also gave us a chance to do some stamping and colouring.  That was it, I'd found the 'grown up' way to enjoy crafting!  I purchased a Christmas stamp and a few pens from a local craft shop, which sold Clarity stamps, and set to making Christmas cards for family and friends.  That was it, I was hooked!

********

Here's Lin's artwork using the New Design Club stamp "All You Need Is Love" which was just perfect for this challenge. How ingenious to stamp it onto the flower petals.

March Clarity Shows

For our current challenge "Flower Power" please click here.

********

Barbara was back today for the third show of the year and was joined by Dean as the presenter.  This always mean there's going to be fun and laughter especially with the blue tits, sorry garden birds!

Was anyone counting how many innuendoes there were in todays show?  I think they did well not to mention "tits" too many times, but there were some laughs weren't there?

Clarity shows always have sell outs and todays show was no exception, hope you all got to buy what you wanted.

If you'd like a reminder of what was on todays shows we've got all of the stamps listed below along with some of the design teams artwork too.  We've even linked the stamps to the Clarity website to make it even easier to shop, aren't we kind to you?
