Challenge 23

Happy New Year!

Hope you all had a good Christmas and are not suffering too much this morning from last nights celebrations.

As is customary with the new year we set resolutions for the coming year to give us something to aim for in the months to come.  Well here at the Clarity challenge we've also decided to have a fresh start to the new year too!

As you already know Barbara and Clarity have expanded over the pond to the US which means that the design team are kept busy with the UK, US and German samples.  Sooooo...... we've invited some new designers to join the team here at the challenge.  How exciting is that?

We'd like to thank Amanda Branston, Jo Rice, Jane Telford, Lynne Hammond, Sally-Ann Hanes and Sam Crowe for their contributions to the challenge.  Linda Page, Naomi Mahon and Yvonne Froehlich will remain part of the team and be joined by the following talented designers:

My name is Amanda and I'm 45 years young.  I am currently slave to two teenage boys after losing my day job about a year ago.  I have been a single mum for fourteen years, which is about the time I started card making.

I have always loved making things and as a girl had every kit my mum could find for me (flower making, candle making, soap making etc)  I also had an Altair design book close to hand and was always colouring in and making patterns.  I have never been able to draw, which is why I love stamping so much, and now we have beautiful stencils too.

I have started to do more home decor items now which is great fun.  I love to use canvas boards and acrylic paints and I keep a look out for cheap frames too as I like to up cycle them for my artwork.

My favourite thing at the moment is playing with my gelli plate, I just love it!  You end up with some fabulous artwork without always knowing how you've done it.

I am really excited to be part of such a talented challenge blog team and am looking forward to sharing my favourite pastime with everyone.

Hi, my name is Angela and I live near Reading in Berkshire.  I have been crafting almost since I was knee high to a grass hopper!  My mum used to knit and sew when my sister and I were young and I was keen to follow her lead.  She taught me by making outfits for my dolls, but as I grew older my dolls were left with a dated wardrobe whilst I spent time on outfits for me, and when I moved into my own property I also made curtains and other home furnishings.

My sister moved to Florida back in the 1980's and on the numerous visits to her I became hooked on cross stitch and sewed many a picture.  The biggest undertaking being a bridal scene, complete with seed pearls, for my parents 40th wedding anniversary.

My addiction with card making first started when the company I was working for made my role redundant about 12 years ago.  My artistic sister had been making cards for a while and with unexpected time on my hands I decided to have a go too.  The rest, as they say, is history.  I now have oodles of crafting goodies and make all my cards.  I have set up a blog and also started running classes and hope to be able to do a lot more in this area.

I'm very excited about being a member of the design team and hope my pieces of artwork give you lots of ideas.

Hello everyone, I already know some of you, but for those of you I haven't yet had the pleasure to meet either in person or online, my name is Barbara.  From my earliest years I learnt to love crafting and making things with my Mum; we did a lot of knitting and sewing together as I grew up.

A few years ago, I was lucky enough to see Barbara Gray in action by chance on Create and Craft TV and a new crafting addiction was born!

I often hear people saying they start a craft with the intention of making things to save money and yes, I thought the same, but I know better now!  As time goes on, the more new techniques I want to try, and my wish list just keeps growing.  I know my husband Martin would agree that its not a craft room I need for my stash; its a craft house!

I want to say a big thank you to the wonderful friends who have given me so much support and encouragement on my creative journey.  Since I first plucked up the courage to enter a card into the Clarity Stamp Challenge less than eighteen months ago, I now have my own blog and have been asked to join the Blog Design Team.  It's a dream come true... excited and over the moon sums it up pretty well... oh, and a little bit nervous too!

I hope that I in turn, will be able to offer you some ideas and inspiration, and I look forward to seeing your work each month.

Hi I'm Carol and I love to craft and anything to do with stamping.

I have been crafting for several years now.  I starting by attending classes and it's become very addictive since then.  My passion is stamping and I have just started having a go at canvases as I love using grunge paste and getting messy with paint.

I am thrilled to be given the chance to be on the Clarity Challenge Design Team as I just love using all of the Clarity stamps and stencils.

I'm 56 and live with my partner Peter in Hillingdon, Middlesex.  I have a full time job as a Payroll Supervisor for Travelport International Limited and have been with them for 22 years processing payrolls for staff in 23 countries throughout Europe.

My favourite hobby is card making which has taken over most of my spare time (and the kitchen table) during the last 18 months!  Other hobbies include cooking and baking as well as socialising, entertaining and holidaying (as often as we can).

I'm looking forward to this new chapter in my life, designing for, and judging the entries for the Clarity Challenge and hopefully giving a little inspiration to the other crafters out there.

Hi!  Originally from Edinburgh, I have been married to Alex for 30 years and we have 3 lovely kids (well adults now).  I have crafted most of my life and am at my happiest when left with something to create, be it icing flowers or a canvas.  I have been known to design and build the odd kitchen here and there (I even have my own router).

When I moved to the west coast of Scotland I started to make and sell cards and parchment boxes.  I also played around with inks, pencils, paint and stamps along with some computer graphics.  It was at this time I was introduced to crafting on a different level.

What I do and how I do it have all been influenced by Clarity Stamp, Barbara Gray and her design team.  I now have a whole collection of tips and tricks, some from my "arty" days at college and some courtesy of the Clarity Stamp family.

I was really happy that Barbara decided to start the Clarity Challenge Blog and I have only missed one entry since it started.  I was (and still am) even more thrilled to have been asked to join the Clarity Challenge Design Team (I got the family out of bed for that one!)

I love sharing what I do and also love seeing what other crafters come up with when given a theme.  I look forward to working with the other "newbies" on the team and I'm very glad that Linda, Naomi and Yvonne are staying with us.

If I can pass on a bit of inspiration to others, as they have to me, then I will certainly be a Very Happy Crafter.

WOW I still can't believe I've been asked to be a designer for the Clarity Challenge, I feel it's the best thing ever and I'm looking forward to the challenge.

I've always been a bit arty, after leaving school I went into hairdressing but soon realised that my passion was still art so started making cards.  I didn't start stamping until recently after watching Barbara on Create and Craft and now I love it.

I am married with two grown up daughters and three young grandsons. Although they have both moved away I still get to see them often as they travel back regularly to go and watch Norwich City FC with their Dad. In 2012 I took early retirement from teaching Maths and ICT, when my school was closed due to reorganisation. I have always enjoyed Arts and Crafts and dabbled in most of them over the years.

Now I have more time to indulge in my hobbies which also includes gardening and growing vegetables on the allotment.  I have taken up my paintbrushes again after many, many years and joined an art class one morning a week.  My two knitting machines have also come back out of their boxes as I have grandsons to knit for now.

I am really proud to have been chosen to be part of the Clarity Challenge Blog Design Team.

Hi Shelagh Metselaar here. I’m thrilled and delighted to be invited to join the Clarity Challenge Design Team. It was a complete surprise to be included and a little daunting as there are many highly talented footsteps to follow.

As for me, I’ve been a primary school teacher for thirty five plus years, taught in six different countries from the Far East to Europe as well as England and my home country of Scotland.  Art and craft have always held an importance in my teaching and nothing captivated me more than designing engaging activities for my classes such as collage, painting, needlework, clay or an amalgam of all of those.

Card making was the next logical step when we were posted to Houston, Texas and I no longer had prep and marking to occupy my evenings; also having eight craft stores within a ten mile radius - it seemed madness not to visit each one regularly and explore their offerings; my craft shipment home was huge and thanks to Barbara and Clarity Stamps, I have found a use for all the alcohol inks I bought!

I was more of a paper crafter until a couple of years ago when I watched Barbara demonstrate Clarity Stamps and a wealth of techniques here in Aberdeen; I was hooked and the rest is history!  Part of this history is that I was so honoured to be chosen as the Cardmaking and Papercraft magazine’s card-maker of the year for 2013. I’m really looking forward to the next stage in the development of my crafting career.

I hope you will join us in wishing the new team all the best of luck and we can't wait to see your artwork in the forthcoming challenges.

Barbara will be on our TV screens this Sunday on Create and Craft so don't forget to have a cuppa ready and waiting at 09.00 for two whole hours of fun, crafting and techniques

The lucky winner of the £50 Clarity voucher and our top 5 will be announced on Saturday.  Will you be one of the lucky winners?

Here's the theme for our new challenge which will run throughout January:

Things With Wings
(using Clarity stamps ONLY)

As we get back into crafting after the Christmas frenzy we put away our Christmas stamps for another year although there may be those amongst you that start to get ready for next Christmas.  That's too organised for me!!

The new challenge allows you to use your imagination in the interpretation of this theme.  Why not have a look through your Clarity stamps and stencils to see what has wings.  We can't wait to see what you come up with.

You could win a £50 voucher if you are randomly selected as our winner at the end of the month and become our guest designer for the next challenge.

Good luck with the challenge!!

Here is a little bit of inspiration from our new design team:

Linda Page

Yvonne Froehlich

Amanda Openshaw

Lesley Walden

Julie Dunn

Barbara Lancaster
