Spotlight on Shelagh Metselaar - Top 5 from Challenge 13

For our current challenge "Monochrome" please click here.

********

We thought it would be nice to have spotlight posts throughout the month dedicated to our top 5 from the last challenge "FLOWER POWER"  We hope you enjoy reading about their crafting journey and you never know it could be you in the spotlight next month.

When I saw the ‘Garden Bird’ stamps, it was ‘simples’ – I had to have them!  I then pondered the wisdom of buying the ‘Cherry Blossom’ set (I already have the small stamp) - for all of ten seconds! The flexibility of large and small branches meant they were yet another necessary purchase.  When the challenge was announced, ideas were already forming and falling into place. The collapsible box with interior struts to support the branches seemed likely to fit the bill; the new challenge was to work out how to make it from a sheet of A4.

At the same time, in my garden, blue tits had taken residence in their nesting box for the third year running and nearby, my cherry tree had blossomed.  There was a first-hand experience going on although it didn’t really help with the colouring.

Thank you for selecting my submission as one of the Top 5; to say I am thrilled is somewhat of an understatement.  I was also overwhelmed by the amount of comments I received, so thank you for taking the time.  Once I finalise my blog, I will be able to thank you all in person.

The next challenge, however, has me stumped.

Happy stamping and stencilling
Shelagh

Spotlight on Emma Burns - Top 5 from Challenge 13

We thought it would be nice to have spotlight posts throughout the month dedicated to our top 5 from the last challenge "FLOWER POWER"  We hope you enjoy reading about their crafting journey and you never know it could be you in the spotlight next month.

Originally from Edinburgh, I now live in the little valley town of Darvel in East Ayrshire although as we speak I'm packing boxes and on the move again.  I'm married with three grown up children and two cats.

I've been crafting now for over 6 years and started out making cards for family and friends.  This has progressed to selling them, along with other little makes, artwork and a few demos for the local Girl Guides.

I love to play about with all the things that are available today in the crafting world (big jump from computer generated clip art) but I have to confess that my favourite is stamping, especially with Clarity stamps.  They are so versatile and well made, I rave about them all the time.  I love watching Barbara Gray demonstrate and have managed to see her in Glasgow twice having got a piece of her work during a demo earlier this year which takes pride of place in my craft room.

I started a blog last year mainly due to the Clarity Stamp Challenge and I've enjoyed taking part and being in touch with other crafters.  My family can only take so much before their eyes mist over.  It's lovely to see what other people achieve and to feel a part of this community of such creative people.

I'm very very happy and honoured to have been picked in the Top 5 for this challenge as there were such a lot of lovely cards entered.  A big thank you to all the design team, hugs to all and happy crafting!

Spotlight on Andy Duggan - Top 5 from Challenge 13

We thought it would be nice to have spotlight posts throughout the month dedicated to our top 5 from the last challenge "FLOWER POWER"  We hope you enjoy reading about their crafting journey and you never know it could be you in the spotlight next month.

I'm Andy Duggan and I'm so thrilled to have been selected to be in the top 5 for challenge 13 (unlucky for some eh?).

By day I'm a 26 year old psychology lecturer from Middlesbrough, teaching A-level psychology to 16 to 19 year olds and also running a GCSE science evening class.  I'm also a Registered Scientist and enjoy sharing my passion for science with one and all.  I must say that I love my job and work with some of the most inspiring people.  By night, however, I'm a crafter!

I've been interested in crafts for quite a few years but only took the massive plunge after seeing Barbara Gray using her gelli plate in June of last year.  This is when I fell in love with Clarity and I've not looked back since.  I've gone from having one shelf of craft stuff, to a cupboard full and now I have two cupboards and a bag.  I would say that 90% of it is probably Clarity stuff!

The best bit about crafting has got to be taking a blank medium, a few inks, paints or anything else that goes and combining them to make something beautiful which can be given to a loved one.  I now have two gelli plates as I love using them so much and I'm definitely getting into a more 'altered art' phase at the moment!  I'm now looking to expand my crafting horizons, having attended some fab workshops with Sam Crowe and Maria Simms (truly inspirational people) and hope to start selling some of my crafty goodies.  It would be a dream of mine to one day be on the Clarity Design Team and who knows, maybe start running my own workshops.

I look forward to chatting to more Clarity fans and hopefully seeing you at some workshops, where you'll probably meet 'Andy's Mam' as well!

We thought it would be nice to have spotlight posts throughout the month dedicated to our top 5 from the last challenge "FLOWER POWER"  We hope you enjoy reading about their crafting journey and you never know it could be you in the spotlight next month.

I've been overwhelmed by the positive reaction to this card, so "thank you" for choosing me as one of the top 5 from so many fantastic entries.  I am considering doing something similar on a larger scale now for a canvas.
My long suffering husband Martin is making plans to build me a proper craft space in the loft.  He seems to think this will be enough to stop my craft stash taking over the entire house!  I wouldn't take bets on it.  I blame Barbara Gray and team Clarity for bringing us so many "must have" items.  When I started out card making, I remember thinking that I could save money;  making, rather than buying cards.  Who was I kidding!  What I have discovered is that it has brought so much pleasure into my life and brought me into contact with so many wonderful, creative people who are now my friends.

Thanks to you all for inspiring me with your beautiful artwork and offering me support and encouragement on my own crafting journey.

Spotlight on Lynne Bishop - Top 5 from Challenge 13

For our current challenge "Monochrome" please click here.

We thought it would be nice to have spotlight posts throughout the month dedicated to our top 5 from the last challenge "FLOWER POWER"  We hope you enjoy reading about their crafting journey and you never know it could be you in the spotlight next month.

Hi I'm Lynne and I live in Tamworth and have been married to my husband Fred for 43 years.  We have four grown up children and four grandchildren ranging in ages from 7 to 19.

I inherited my love of crafts from my Mum who used to knit and do intricate hand embroidery and also my Nan who was an excellent seamstress.  She would make clothes for my doll which I think were the envy of all my friends.  By the time I had daughters I was able to make their clothes which was so useful especially as one of them seemed to rip her dresses as fast as I made them.  I also made soft toys to sell and created several cross stitch products.  I can also knit and crochet.

Like a lot of other people I started making cards after seeing a demo on Create and Craft.  I started with decoupage, iris folding and quilling, really enjoying seeing a blank piece of card take shape. Then I joined the New Design Club just over a year ago but had not really make good use of the stamps I was collecting until the end of last year.

Now I'm hooked and loving the challenge of looking at different ways of using the stamps and stencils. I never cease to be amazed at the wonderful cards produced by Barbara and the Design Team.

Thank you for choosing my card to be in the top 5, I enjoyed making it as the rose panel stencil is lovely.  Now I just have to think about my card for this month's challenge.

I would like to wish everyone else good luck.

What a better way to enjoy a relaxing Sunday morning than to spend two hours with the lovely Barbara Gray on our TV screens.  She bought us a selection of stamps, both new and old, as well as brand new stencils too.  Today she was joined by Nigel May who, as always, brings a smile to all of our faces.

If you'd like a reminder of what was on todays shows we've got all of the stamps listed below along with some of the design teams artwork too.  We've even linked the stamps to the Clarity website to make it even easier to shop, aren't we kind to you?
